RPG DEVELOPER UPDATE

Hiya ChainGuardians community! Ju is back at it again with some fresh news on the RPG redo! Yes, as previously stated, the upcoming RPG version is not just an update; it’s an entirely new version of it — a fully-featured V2!

Where Are We At?

At the start of 2022 (happy New Year’s, by the way!), we have begun internal security testing of foundational features such as combat and new unit stats. Our testers and QA are playing an internal version, and things are moving incredibly fast. The team has identified, implemented, and validated solutions to security concerns, ensuring that all players can use our on-chain features safely, securely, and efficiently — finalization of our security pass is in progress.

For you who are interested in the nitty-gritty of the new infrastructure, here are the highlights:

  • Implemented on-chain tokens for the game economy: with play-to-earn infrastructure completed
  • Gameplay logic and economy is now handled on the backend with real-time connection, this means that the game is always online
  • When a player executes an action (attack, set a character in formation, buy an item…), the game waits for confirmation from the backend
  • Local memory is no longer trusted in favor of persistent and volatile network memory: preventing memory-altering exploitation attempts.
  • We are still thinking about multi-tabbing, but the current implementation essentially transforms every tab into child visual players for the active tab, with all actions, especially combat, bubbling and preventing different combats at the same time
  • Reworked the stat system and progression to be more enjoyable and strategic
  • Completely rethinking randomizer system, allowing users to easily mint on-chain (more information soon)

The Golden Cherry on top of the Crystal Cake

We are also pleased to welcome a new member to the RPG team, Ash! Ash, alongside our very own local superhero, Noi, is directing a complete in-game artistic and UI overhaul. Her resume is extremely impressive; you’ll hear more from her very soon! Excitingly, she’s already doing wonder creating new character visuals as mentioned in the last update. As a teaser, she’s a great master of the dark arts in animation.

At the same time, our UX pass has progressed significantly, thanks to the hard work from our game design and UX guru! While we are currently keeping a relatively familiar visual implementation, it is still in our plans to completely redo UI visuals to compliment the fantastic work that has already been completed. For example, inventory processes, market details, and team formations are just a few elements undergoing flow improvements. WAY MORE information for PvE and PvP. The future is bright, friends.

Future Expectations

As I mentioned to you all at the start of this blog post, our internal teams are currently testing our foundational features to ensure security and stability. We’re expecting at least a two-week test phase for this, with some more time required for finishing up PvE-only UX. Without giving a specific date, we are targeting February for the first beta-testing with our player base. We’ll keep you updated on this as soon as we are comfortable showing you the fruit of our labor!

I hope this has been a satisfying update and I’m looking forward to sharing more with you soon!
