Creating a Blockchain Superhero

ChainGuardians are the original sci-fi superheroes blockchain project, establishing a body of awesome original art and lore that has seen continuous expansion over the past several years. Headlining the characters that populate the ecosystem are the Guardians, the defiant heroes battling the Gatekeepers for control of the blockchains that promise a decentralized future in the face of looming oppression. We all love the Guardians, but have you ever wondered what goes into their creation?

Since the release of the first ChainGuardians NFTs, the team has worked closely with collaborating projects to develop characters that embody the attributes most accurately reflecting the image they seek to project to the public. Creating a Guardian is an extensive process incorporating input from across the ChainGuardians team — let’s take a look at what is involved.

ChainGuardians Collaborations

Every new Guardian begins with collaboration. ChainGuardian supports an interoperable future characterized by cooperation between projects and is proud to bring this spirit to life in the form of unique collectible and playable character-based NFTs. As a first step, the ChainGuardians team sends a character profile to the collaborating team, requesting input on such factors as gender, age, ethnic background, visual style, type (human vs. anthropomorphic), lore, story, and more. This information is the primary resource from which the art team draws in ideating the character. Based on the characteristics established by the profile, the art team draws an initial concept, incorporating the desired features into a unique Guardian. This is when the range of ideas begins to merge into an individual taking on a life of its own — in other words, an act of creative magic! Along with developing initial visuals, the team establishes a personality and backstory, adding dimension to the character, always working through successive versions with feedback from the collaborator.

Art, Lore & Tech Integrations

The team addresses several practical matters, progressing from a set of ideas to an expressive visual form well underway. Tech integrations highlighting features of the collaborating project are explored and established, as in the case of incorporating the ChainLink VRF in minting Zorare, cross-chain considerations in the case of characters such as Mudra and Binancio, and in connecting with new marketplaces as in the case of Himavan.

Now that fine-tuning and finalization of lore and art, as well as technical matters, are well in hand, the sale model (blind box, auction, mint….) is determined. Specifics are determined, including mint number, price model, and all-important utilities. Guardians have utility across the ChainGuardians ecosystem, the details of which are carefully balanced in each instance to enhance and expand upon the opportunities offered without upsetting the balance necessary to ensure the sustainability of the platforms involved.

NFT Deployment

With everything in place, a release date is selected, and final preparations are made. Any technological deployments are timed to ensure that the NFTs representing the final distillation of efforts thus far are ready for a smooth release into the wild. Marketing is coordinated with the collaborating project and announcements in Tweets, videos, and articles are prepared and made available to the public. Finally, in order to properly celebrate its addition to the ranks of Guardians, a dedicated livestream and/or other events are planned and executed in conjunction with the public release of the NFT.

From initial discussions to the final product, the brand new Guardian has involved input from across the ChainGuardians and collaborating teams. This level of engagement is required to establish a hero capable of standing the test of time as an active part of the ChainGuardians platforms and as a representation of the ideals encompassed in an open, cooperative, and inclusive blockchain ecosystem.

NFT Ecosystem Utility

Being established as an NFT with utility across the ecosystem is in many ways only the beginning of the life of a Guardian.
